JIN832: Portable Vacuum Cleaner (Using Recycled Materials)

AKHIL A/L JAYANTHAN SJKT CASTLEFIELD

This project, titled Portable Vacuum Cleaner (Using Recycled Materials), focuses on transforming everyday waste into a functional tool through the application of STEM concepts. The main objective is to explore creative ways of repurposing discarded materials such as plastic bottles, aluminium cans, and wire into a simple vacuum cleaner while enhancing students’ understanding of basic engineering and scientific principles.

The construction process involves preparing and modifying recycled components, including cutting and assembling a plastic bottle as the main body, designing a fan blade from an aluminium can, and installing a small DC motor powered by a battery pack. A filter system is created using wire and netting, and all parts are securely connected to ensure proper airflow and suction. Once assembled, the device is tested to evaluate its ability to generate suction and collect light debris such as dust and small paper particles.

The expected outcome is a functional, low-cost vacuum cleaner capable of basic cleaning tasks. Beyond its technical results, the project highlights the importance of sustainability by demonstrating how waste materials can be reused effectively. It also provides hands-on learning opportunities in physics and electronics while encouraging innovation, environmental awareness and problem-solving skills among students.
