We got the idea to make fruit charcoal from Namusoke Immaculate, the founder of the Bakyala Tweyune women’s club. To create briquettes, they use banana peels. For the banana peel top briquette, they use sand and dust. However, we decided to use sawdust. If there is more smoke and soot, we will reduce the amount of wood dust produced, which will reduce the amount of smoke produced by the banana charcoal and therefore the air pollution. Regular charcoal produces the darkest smoke since it burns partially and releases gases that contain carbon particles and other dangerous elements.
