Loving plants is easy—but keeping them alive and thriving is where most plant lovers begin to struggle. Through interviews and observations, our group, GrowGenix, found that people from different backgrounds including a university student juggling classes and part-time work, a nurse with long shifts, elderly and even gardening enthusiast often face challenges such as forgetting to fertilize, inconsistent watering, and poor soil care due to time constraints, lack of knowledge, or physical limitations, which leads to weak and unhealthy plants and turns a joyful hobby into a source of frustration; we used qualitative methods like direct interviews, routine observations, and problem tracking to understand their daily routines and the specific obstacles they face; using these insights, we developed a prototype solution that provides smart reminders, basic care tips, and customized fertilization support to make plant care easier and more effective. We, GrowGenix, hope to nurture a community that embraces gardening as a meaningful hobby, as gardening not only beautifies spaces but also improves mental well-being, reduces stress, and encourages sustainable living practices—making it a beneficial habit for individuals and the environment alike.
