YI415: D STRAW

CHAN KEN JIN SEKOLAH MENENGAH KEBANGSAAN SEAFIELD

Plastic waste is a global environmental problem that is being faced by the world. Single-use plastics are most commonly used for packaging such as bottles, wrappers, straws, and bags. Why single-use plastic is a problem? These items are used once and are often discarded in our streets and parks. Plastics fragments can release toxic chemicals into the environment and can be a serious health risk for humans and animals. Fruit and vegetable peels are considered agro waste and are always thrown into the environment instead of turned them into useful products. Our aim is to utilize dragon fruit peels as a basic material for making edible and bioplastic straws. Our bioplastic straw has no negative impact to environment as it decomposes naturally, fully biodegradable and compostable.
