According to statistics provided by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Malaysia, a significant number of Malaysian young people encountered mental health issues in 2021, totalling approximately 424,000 individuals. Notably, in 2022, the percentage of students contemplating suicide surged to 13.1%, resulting in over 4,300 tragic deaths. This concerning trend was particularly pronounced at KPTM Kuantan, as counselor statistics spanning from 2018 to 2023 indicated a further escalation in mental health challenges among students following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to these distressing statistics, an application called CarePTM was developed to support students in maintaining their mental well-being. The counselor at Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) Kuantan has endorsed and collaborated with this innovative tool. Over recent years, the escalating mental health concerns among young individuals and students have become a pressing issue. The primary objective of CarePTM is to transform students' approach to stress management, encouraging them to engage in healthier and more effective coping strategies. Moreover, the app serves as a conduit for students seeking to interact with counselors. This application boasts a range of distinctive features to assist students, including mental health screening assessments, stress and conflict management techniques, scheduling counseling appointments, and offering tips for nurturing a healthy mind. It is noteworthy that this marks the inaugural application developed by KPTM in Malaysia, with a unique blend of specialized features. The societal and institutional benefits are manifold, including the more efficient identification and support of students grappling with mental health problems, thereby reducing the risk of behavioural issues among the student’s body. Future plans involve expanding the reach of this application to encompass all schools,IPTA and IPTS across Malaysia.
