SS413: Formulating Paracetamol-Infused Jelly Using Fish Scale Gelatin For Pediatric Use

Lee Zhen Yu Lee Vareechiangmai School

The utilization of fishery waste, particularly fish scales, as a source for gelatin extraction has gained significant attention due to its potential applications in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. This study aims to extract gelatin from fish scales using a 0.2% sodium hydroxide solution followed by a 0.2% acetic acid treatment. The scales were then heated at 80°C for 2.5 hours, filtered, and further heated at 60°C for 3 hours. The extracted gelatin yield varied by fish species and exhibited suitable properties for pharmaceutical applications, such as capsule production and topical formulations. This study highlights the potential of fish waste valorization, supporting sustainable and circular economy practices.
