Power Bank Pen

Electricity access is essential in supporting modern learning and communication; however, unexpected power outages can significantly disrupt daily academic activities, particularly among students. In Malaysia and similar contexts, such disruptions often limit access to lighting and reduce the usability of electronic devices due to battery depletion. Furthermore, the need to carry separate tools such as a pen, flashlight, and power bank is often inconvenient and impractical.

This study presents the development of the Power Bank Pen, an integrated multifunctional device designed to address these challenges. The product combines three key functions within a single compact structure: a writing pen, a touch-activated LED light, and a mini power bank. The device utilises a rechargeable 3.7V lithium-ion battery, a charging module, a USB output system, and a touch sensor circuit to ensure efficient performance and user convenience.

The development process involved systematic design planning, component integration, and functional testing to ensure safety, durability, and usability. The PowerBank Pen enables continuous writing during low-light conditions, provides immediate illumination during emergencies, and supports basic mobile device charging.

Compared to conventional single-function tools, this innovation enhances portability, reduces cost, and improves practicality, particularly for students. In addition, it promotes efficient energy usage and supports sustainable practices in line with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

In conclusion, the Power Bank Pen offers a compact, efficient, and user-oriented solution that enhances both academic productivity and emergency preparedness.
