Recyling papers using banana peels is an innovative and eco-friendly method that aligns with several sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particulary SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG15 (Life on land). This process also supports SDG13 (Climate Action) by reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
This study explores the potential of banana peels as a sustainable, eco-friendly alternative for handmade paper production. Typically discarded as agricultural waste, banana peels contain high cellulose content, making them an ideal fiber source.
The process involves boiling, pulping and blending the peels with recycled paper scraps to enhance structural integrity. Results indicate that the resulting paper possesses unique aesthetic textures and sufficient durability for light packaging or artistic use. By repurposing organic waste, this method reduces reliance on wood pulp, lowers deforestation rates, and promotes circular economy practices. This research highlights an accessible, low-cost solution for sustainable waste management.
