Student safety during school bus drop-offs is a growing concern, particularly when students cross roads without sufficient supervision. This project addresses the risk of accidents caused by students’ lack of traffic awareness, disregard for safety instructions, and the limited ability of bus drivers to monitor students once they disembark. To identify the core of the issue, observations were conducted at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pantai on the 4th January 2025 (12pm to 4pm), Labuan International Seasport Complex on the 11th January 2025 (2pm to 3pm), and Labuan International Terminal Ferry on the 21st December 2024 (8am to 10am). Additionally, interviews were held with students around the age of 19 who shared their perspectives and experiences regarding traffic safety during school transportation. The client, a local school transportation provider, emphasized the ongoing challenges in ensuring student safety at drop-off points.
In response, a prototype named ProNet was developed using Shapr3D over the course of three to four weeks. ProNet is an external alert system designed to signal nearby vehicles to stop, providing a safe window for students to cross the road. With this innovation, the team hopes to reduce traffic-related incidents and contribute to a safer, more informed environment for students, while encouraging collaboration among schools, parents, and road users.
