In a typical college setting, students and lecturers often face a common yet overlooked inconvenience: their canned drinks warm up quickly during long lectures or study sessions, becoming less refreshing and sometimes leading to condensation that damages papers and creates messy workspaces. Recognizing this issue as more than a minor discomfort, our team sought to investigate and address the lack of a practical solution for keeping canned beverages cool in academic environments.
We began by identifying the problem through structured interviews and observational studies within our college. Feedback consistently highlighted that students and lecturers dislike relying on ice due to its messiness and short-lived cooling. Instead, they wanted a solution that was portable, effective, and convenient. The need for a better system became more apparent when we observed how often condensation from drink cans led to damaged notebooks, wet desks, and general disruption during classes and meetings.
Our client base consists primarily of active college students and lecturers who spend long hours in indoor settings, often without access to refrigeration or ice. They represent a community that values practicality and efficiency, making them ideal candidates for a product that solves this beverage-related inconvenience. To address the issue, we adopted a user-centered design approach and rapid prototyping methods. We brainstormed multiple ideas, created sketches, and built early-stage models. The most promising prototype went through several iterations based on user feedback, focusing on enhancing insulation and minimizing condensation. The entire process, from problem identification to prototype development, spanned approximately four weeks. During this time, our team tested various materials and design concepts, ultimately arriving at a compact, lightweight can-cooling solution that maintains low temperatures without requiring ice.Our final prototype—MiniMojo—is a reusable, insulated sleeve that keeps canned drinks cold for extended periods while preventing condensation. Its sleek, student-friendly design makes it both functional and stylish, ensuring adoption among our target users. In conclusion, our group aims to improve everyday comfort and efficiency for students and lecturers through smart, affordable innovation. We hope our prototype will inspire further development and potentially lead to commercial production. Our journey demonstrates how small inconveniences, when addressed thoughtfully, can lead to meaningful improvements in daily life on campus.
