JIN145: INTEGRATED SMART HOME SYSTEM FOR SAFETY, SUSTAINABILITY & QUALITY OF LIFE

AHMAD 'ATHOILLAH BIN MOHD AZHAN SK RAJA BAHAR

This project presents the development of an Integrated Smart Home System designed to enhance household safety, environmental sustainability, and overall quality of life through automation and Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The system addresses critical real-world challenges such as energy inefficiency, water wastage, climate-related risks, and home security by enabling real-time monitoring, automatic response, and intelligent decision-making. It incorporates six core functions: automatic gate lighting, smart irrigation, flood water level detection with emergency alerts and adaptive structural response, real-time weather information display, automated clothes drying system, and a remote-controlled vehicle barrier for access control. Built using Arduino and ESP8266/ESP32 microcontrollers, the system integrates multiple sensors and actuators to respond dynamically to changing environmental conditions, reducing human dependency while improving safety and comfort. This innovation supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) through energy-efficient automation, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by enhancing residential safety and resilience, SDG 13 (Climate Action) through proactive flood and weather response, and SDG 15 (Life on Land) by promoting responsible water use for plant care. The project demonstrates how applied science and engineering can deliver affordable, scalable, and locally relevant smart living solutions, especially for households in tropical and flood-prone regions.
