Rattus tiomanicus is a major pest in Malaysian oil palm plantations, causing economic losses of up to 240 kg of fresh fruit bunches per hectare annually. Although rodenticides are widely used to control outbreaks, traditional population estimation methods such as the Lincoln Index rely on non user friendly assumptions and labour intensive capture procedures. In support of Sustainable Development Goal 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, this study develops a mathematical model to simulate rat population dynamics using historical rat-baiting campaign data. Key model elements include total active ingredients applied per hectare and the acute oral Lethal Dosage 50 of rat bait.
