This experiment investigated how the clarity of shadows is influenced by different types of materials when illuminated by a torchlight. Conducted by the group Science Geniuses, the study used three objects: cardboard, a plastic sheet, and net cloth. A fixed torchlight was used as the only light source, and each object was placed at the same distance from the light to observe shadow clarity. Observations showed that the cardboard produced the sharpest and darkest shadow due to its opaque nature, while the plastic sheet created a lighter, semi-clear shadow. The net cloth formed a blurry shadow with visible light passing through. The results demonstrated that the transparency and texture of materials significantly affect the sharpness and intensity of the shadows they produce. This experiment enhanced students’ understanding of how light interacts with different materials, supporting key concepts in light and shadow behavior.
