In this science project, we explore how natural plant pigments can be used to create a pH-sensitive mood lipstick that changes color based on each user’s lip chemistry. We focused on two natural pigments: betalain from beetroot and anthocyanin from red cabbage. These pigments are known to visibly change color when exposed to different pH levels. Since human lips have a slightly acidic pH (around 4.5 to 5.5), the lipstick transforms into personalized shades such as pink, red, or purple, depending on the individual's skin pH. This concept highlights the idea that beauty products can be interactive, natural, and science-based. The project raises awareness about the dangers of synthetic chemicals in commercial cosmetics and promotes a safer, eco-friendly alternative using natural sources. It also acts as a live demonstration of acid-base reactions in a real-world application, helping users better understand pH and chemistry through a familiar product lipstick. This innovative concept combines biology, chemistry, and environmental science, showing how natural ingredients can be used to design smart, sustainable, and customizable products. The project is especially relevant in today’s world, where there is increasing demand for clean beauty and science-backed solutions.
