The Worm Buddy Pot is an innovative, eco-friendly planting system designed to reduce food waste and promote sustainable living. In Malaysia, food waste is a serious issue, with enough discarded each year to fill over 16,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. When sent to landfills, this waste emits methane, a greenhouse gas far more harmful than carbon dioxide. Our solution transforms kitchen waste into nutrient-rich compost using earthworms in a compact, twin-layered pot. The inner chamber stores food scraps, while the outer holds soil and plants. Earthworms process the waste into vermicompost, enhancing plant growth. A built-in moisture sensor maintains optimal conditions, making it ideal even for beginners. Testing showed healthier plant growth without the need for chemical fertilizers. Suitable for homes, schools, and urban spaces, the Worm Buddy Pot makes composting simple and educational. Future plans include developing school kits and using recycled materials. This project empowers everyone to turn waste into growth.
