JI874: Innovation Of Plastic-Free Disposable Plates From Cornhusk, Banana Waste, And Lemongrass Fibre

PREESHALINI A/P RUBI INDRAN SEKOLAH JENIS KEBANGSAAN (TAMIL) RAWANG

With rising global demand for disposables and the urgent need to reduce plastic waste, sustainable alternatives are essential. This innovation develops eco-friendly, plastic-free plates using agricultural waste: cornhusk, banana waste, and lemongrass fibre. These biodegradable materials serve as substitutes for conventional plastic products. Promoting the “From Waste to Wealth” concept, the project repurposes renewable resources to create value. Experimental methods assess the plates’ physical properties of thickness, texture, colour, and folding endurance to evaluate consumer appeal. This initiative highlights the potential of agricultural waste in product innovation and supports global efforts toward reducing plastic use and promoting sustainable living.
