Traffic management and road safety continue to face limitations due to the inefficiency of conventional speed bumps, which are non-selective and affect all drivers regardless of their speed. This project introduces an innovative Smart Flow Bump system that addresses key issues, including discomfort for compliant drivers, potential vehicle damage, and delayed emergency response times. The proposed solution utilizes adaptive mechanisms, including non-Newtonian fluid (NNF) technology, to create a speed bump that responds selectively, remaining flexible under normal speeds while becoming firm when vehicles exceed a designated speed threshold.
The innovation offers a significant impact by enforcing speed limits more fairly, targeting only overspeeding vehicles while ensuring smoother traffic flow for compliant drivers. This selective response enhances driving comfort, reduces unnecessary wear on vehicles, and minimizes delays for emergency services. In addition, the system demonstrates strong commercialization potential as a smart and adaptive urban traffic solution, aligning with modern smart city initiatives and providing long-term economic and safety benefits compared to traditional road infrastructures.
