 Heavy rain during night-time leads to flood, but usually, people will only be aware once their house is flooded. The Smart Flood Alert System was designed so it could alert people that the water level is rising around their property and about to get flooded. A flash flood occurs very fast, which leads to loss of property and money. The system can be installed in drainages around a person’s property, and it will alert them with a loud siren and via smartphone once the water level in drains rises to a dangerous level. The objective is to create a design an eco-friendly and economical device that alerts people during the occurrence of flash floods. The fully functional device was tested, and the outcome showed that the system is highly capable of alerting people before the occurrence of the flash floods and could save properties and money. The novelties and speciality are the device is user-friendly, can be fixed and run by anybody with less technical knowledge, less maintenance, is small, light, portable, and lasts long, is economical because costs less than 12 USD, and is environmentally friendly because doesn’t emit any hazardous compounds, can be used with both electricity and battery and functions as usual during blackouts. The device can be easily fixed and unfixed along drainages with metal bands and screws. Soon it is planned to upgrade the Smart Flood Alert System with the short messaging system (SMS) and alert call system which works through a normal phone network without the need for data connection or wi-fi.
