Interest in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) stream  among students at the secondary school level is progressively declining. Many students perceive STEM subjects as difficult, theoretical, and less engaging due to the over-reliance on textbook-based learning. Some students feel that STEM content is not clearly linked to real-life applications or future careers. When students cannot see how the topics they study relate to their everyday lives or job prospects, their motivation declines. This innovation aims to address that issue by introducing a fun and hands-on science education kit designed specifically for young learners. The goal is to ignite curiosity and interest in STEM from an early age by making learning interactive, colorful, and meaningful. Through this kit, students are encouraged to explore basic chemistry concepts in a playful yet educational way, thus fostering a positive mindset towards STEM learning.

This educational kit utilizes natural butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea) as a pH indicator to test the acidity or alkalinity of various common household substances. The butterfly pea flower was selected due to its natural ability to change color in response to pH levels, offering a safe, environmentally friendly, and visually engaging alternative to synthetic indicators. The test substances used in the experiment include lemon juice, vinegar, milk, bleach, water, and baking soda. Each eliciting unique reactions with the pH indicator. The kit also contains several supporting materials: a pH color chart to help students interpret the outcomes, a manual card with step-by-step instructions for conducting the tests, and an answer sheet designed to evaluate students’ understanding upon completion of the experiments.

In conclusion, this innovative kit offers a practical, enjoyable, and visually engaging approach to learning science, especially in the context of acid-base reactions. It provides an alternative to traditional textbook learning by emphasizing experimentation and discovery. By incorporating natural elements and simple chemistry, the kit not only promotes sustainability but also helps students develop critical thinking and observational skills. Ultimately, it serves as an early intervention tool to boost students' interest in the STEM stream, fostering a new generation of young scientists who are curious, capable, and environmentally conscious.
