The Rainergy Roof System is an innovative and environmentally friendly solution developed to solve two major issues commonly faced by homes in tropical climates: excessive roof heat and the wastage of rainwater resources. In Malaysia, rooftops absorb a significant amount of heat during the day, which increases indoor temperature, reduces occupant comfort, and leads to continuous dependence on air conditioning. This reliance not only increases electricity costs but also contributes negatively to the environment. At the same time, the abundance of rainwater is often underutilized despite its potential for various domestic uses. This project aims to develop an integrated smart system capable of automatically cooling the roof while reusing harvested and stored rainwater. The Rainergy Roof System incorporates an ESP32 microcontroller, rain sensor, temperature sensor, ultrasonic water-level sensor, servo motor, water pump, RGB indicator, LCD display, and solar energy as its main power source. When rain is detected, the servo motor automatically opens the tank lid to collect water and closes it once rainfall stops. When the temperature exceeds 30°C, the water pump activates to sprinkle the roof and reduce heat. The ultrasonic sensor continuously monitors the water level and displays the readings through LED indicators and an LCD screen. To enhance user convenience and efficiency, the system is connected to the Blynk Internet of Things (IoT) platform, allowing users to monitor temperature, water levels, and system status in real time using smartphone. Powered entirely by solar energy, the Rainergy Roof System operates without the need for household electricity, making it cost-effective, sustainable, and suitable for both urban and rural areas. This innovation aligns with green technology principles and supports four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13). By integrating automation, renewable energy, and efficient water management, the Rainergy Roof System provides a practical and sustainable solution to improve household comfort, reduce energy consumption, and promote environmental sustainability.
