Pupils’ boredom in learning English vocabulary, coupled with the dull and uninspiring nature of existing English resource books, has long hindered effective vocabulary acquisition in Malaysian primary schools. These books often fail to cater to the diverse learning styles and multiple intelligences of pupils, leading to low engagement and poor performance in vocabulary-based assessments. Specifically, in UASA Part 5 (word completion), many students struggle due to their narrow vocabulary range and inability to comprehend word descriptions. To tackle this issue, the Word Wizards was devised as an innovative solution. This project empowers pupils to create their own interactive picture dictionary featuring vibrant illustrations, simplified definitions in English, example sentences, and AI-generated human-like pronunciation for accurate learning. It also incorporates user-friendly navigation and engaging theme-based online games at the end of each chapter to reinforce learning. Accessible via a single link, the tool ensures a seamless user experience. The effectiveness of this innovation was evaluated through a combination of pre-test and post-test assessments, along with a questionnaire to gather user feedback. Results demonstrated a significant improvement in post-test scores, highlighting enhanced vocabulary acquisition. The questionnaire responses revealed high levels of satisfaction and engagement, while validation by subject matter experts confirmed the tool’s practicality and educational value. This student-driven innovation not only addresses the academic challenges of vocabulary learning but also fosters creativity and active participation, making it a powerful tool for developing vocabulary acquisition among Malaysian primary ESL learners.
