Abstract
The e-Pot: Biodegradable Self-Watering Pot is an eco-innovative solution designed to reduce plastic usage in plant nurseries while promoting sustainable agricultural practices. This project addresses three major issues: the increasing use of polybags in nurseries, reliance on harmful chemical pesticides, and time constraints in manual plant watering. The e-Pot is composed of 65% recycled kitchen waste materials such as eggshells, vegetable leftovers, fish bones, coconut fibre, shrimp shells, and fruit peels combined with 35% clay. The organic materials are sun-dried, ground into powder, and mixed with clay and water before being moulded into pot shapes. Integrated with a moisture sensor, microcontroller, and Bluetooth system, the pot detects soil moisture levels and sends real-time watering notifications to a smartphone. The organic components function as natural fertilizers and pest deterrents, eliminating the need for chemical pesticides. Costing only RM4.20 per unit, the e-Pot is affordable, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient, making it a sustainable alternative to conventional nursery polybags.
