JIN268: Wild World Explorers: A Team Adventure In Animal Discovery

NUR DENIA NADHIRA SEKOLAH KEBANGSAAN SUNGAI NANGKA

The Wild World Explorers project addresses the gap between classroom science and real-world conservation, turning 8-year-old ESL learners into "Junior Researchers." Instead of just reading about nature, students work in small "Explorer Pods" to investigate animals and their habitats as a team. The primary objective is to boost English speaking and teamwork skills by having students prepare and share their own wildlife discoveries. The methodology uses a "Search-and-Share" approach, where groups collect facts about their chosen animals and turn them into exciting visual presentations. A unique feature of this project is its recognition by the National Geographic Explorer Classroom, which allowed the students to present their work to a global community and speak with real-life scientists. Key features include the Explorer’s Field Guide for group notes and a "Live Camera" rehearsal to prepare for digital broadcasting. The potential impact is a massive surge in student confidence; by seeing their work featured on a world stage, students realize that their English skills can connect them to the entire planet.
