This innovation project, “The Boardroom Art of the Deal - Transforming Monetary Policy Learning through Experiential Simulation,” aims to enhance students’ understanding of monetary policy through an authentic, experiential learning approach. Monetary policy is often perceived as abstract and technically complex, making it difficult for students to connect theoretical concepts such as inflation, interest rates, and economic indicators with real-world decision-making. This project addresses the challenge by simulating a central bank’s monetary policy meeting, modelled after the practices of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Monetary Policy Committee. The innovation is implemented using an interactive platform developed using Google Sites, comprising three components: foundational content on monetary policy, structured simulation preparation with role assignments, and a role-play session involving policy discussion and decision-making. Students assume roles such as Governor, economic analysts, and committee members, and engage in pre-meeting research, formal discussions, and post-meeting documentation. The project emphasizes a three-phase learning process-before, during, and after the simulation-supported by structured feedback. This approach enhances students’ conceptual understanding, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. Ultimately, the innovation transforms students into active participants and decision-makers, fostering meaningful learning and better preparation for real-world economic challenges.
