The rapid evolution of educational technologies has reshaped elementary education, offering new opportunities while presenting challenges in balancing tactile, hands-on learning with digital innovation. In Malaysia, the accelerated shift to online education during the COVID-19 pandemic revealed significant disparities in access, infrastructure, and teacher readiness. Traditional teaching tools such as books, charts, and tangible models have long supported sensory engagement and creativity, yet the increasing dominance of digital media among children has raised concerns about reduced motor skills and limited experiential learning.

Hybrid Popup Cards (HiPOP) were developed as an innovative solution to bridge this gap by integrating tactile pop-up features with digital enhancements such as AR, VR, and gamification. The design accommodates diverse learning styles through a multimodal approach, aligning with inclusive education principles. A quantitative study involving 100 elementary school teachers across urban, suburban, and rural schools in Perak assessed the usability, curriculum integration, and impact of HiPOP. Results demonstrated significant improvements in student engagement, sustained attention, cognitive retention, and critical thinking, with strong alignment to curriculum standards.

HiPOP also addresses equity concerns by offering offline-compatible features, making it suitable for rural and under-resourced schools. Teachers reported that the hybrid design enhanced classroom interaction and motivation, while parents noted ease of use and increased involvement in home learning. HiPOP provides a scalable and adaptive educational innovation that merges tactile and digital learning and also supports national education transformation efforts by promoting inclusivity, motivation, and holistic development in building sustainable, equitable, and engaging educational environments for the 21st century.
